Table 3 presents good results in relapse patients enrolled on the retreatment regimen : 80.4% cured rate.Table 4 presents also acceptable results in failure cases enrolled on the retreatment regimen : 74% cured rate.
There was a relatively high failur rate 12.8% probably due to multi-drug resistant tuberculosis.
IV. CONCLUSIONS
Until now, the results of SCC regimen 2SHRZ/6HE in more 49,659 new smears positive cases enrolled on treatment in Vietnam from 1989 till 1994 show that SCC regimen consider effective and able to cure the majority of new contagious cases. In order to apply SCC effectively (D.O.T.S) it is essential that the anti TB network at District and Commune levels should be well trained on skill and management and must be well paid to maintain their services. SCC should rapidly extended the entire country as quickly as possble at least for all new smear positive TB patients.
- With a further extension of the NTP aiming at detecting 70% of the incidence of new smear positive cases while maintaining the ligh cure - rate (85%) in combination with 90% BCG coverage of new-borns, the main condition are fulfilled for effecteve control of tuberculosis in Vietnam.
